The Carbon County Family Support and Children’s Justice Center is hosting their annual Back to School Giveaway on August 2 and August 3. This year will require families to set up an appointment to go to the event that will be held at Carbon County Fairgrounds and Event Center. Castle Country Radio sat down with Director, Shelley Wright to discuss all the details about this event.

“So we will be giving away free brand new backpacks, brand new school supplies – while supplies last. We will also be giving away some new pair of shoes, gently used clothing, new packages of socks and underclothes. We will also have some hygiene kits,” said Wright. All of these items will help families prepare their children for a new school year.

Event organizers are still accepting donations for school supplies. “We put in college ruled notebooks, binders, folders with the pocket folders, mechanical pencils, pencils, pens, and erasers. The little pencil holders, so we try to put all of the supplies in the pencil holder cases and then we just put those in the backpacks,” said Wright. If parents are out doing school shopping for their own kids, maybe pick up a few extra items to donate to those that are in need in our community. If you are unable to shop for school supplies but would like to make monetary donation towards the cause you can do so as well.

Everyone in the community who are in need of a little assistance this year with school needs are urged to attend this free event. Again, this year families are required to call the CJC to set up an appointment to attend the Annual Back to School Giveaway. “They can call the center at (435) 636-3736 and our Office Manager will assist them. They’ll just schedule a time and a date of when they can attend the Back-to-School event. Then we need the number of children that they will be bringing, and the ages, so they will be asked if they are in the secondary or elementary school, and then we’ll ask how many boys and how many girls,” explained Wright. The appointments will be one half hour for five families at a time. On August 2 appointments will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and on August 3 they will run from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

If you are making a donation towards the cause whether that’s monetary or school supplies you may drop them off at the center. The center is located at 80 South Fairgrounds Way in Price and their normal business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
