Southeastern Utah Health Department would like to remind parents about back-to-school vaccines that are needed for kindergarten and seventh grade students. District School Nurses, Heidi Yoklavich and Belle Bowers took time to come into Castle Country Radio to share the details on immunizations.
“So I think most parents know when you’re starting your kid in kindergarten, they need a set of shots. That’s kind of the initial thing, so you give them their baby shots, when they go into kindergarten, they need another set. If those shots in that time frame were maybe have been given in an incorrect interval or something like that, then yes, then they’re might be kids between that kindergarten age to seventh, where we need to either get them another dose or something to catch them up. I do think sometimes parents don’t realize that when they go into seventh grade, there are those additional vaccines that are required,” stated Yoklavich. Not only is your kindergartener in need of immunizations but any child entering seventh grade will need additional shots if they are not current. Your child will typically need a certificate of immunization to enroll in school.
On August 8 and August 9 there will be registration at both Mont Harmon and Helper Middle Schools where the health department will be available. “We will be going through records at Helper on August 8 and then Mont Harmon on August 9. Mont Harmon is 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and Helper is going to be 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and both times we will have the immunization trailer there. So if they’re not up to date and we take the insurance we can give the immunizations,” said Bowers. Parents are urged to bring their child’s immunization record to registration so that they can check to see if your student is up to date on vaccines.
If the above times don’t work with parents’ schedule the Southeastern Utah Health Department offer walk-in clinics in both Carbon and Emery Counties. “We have clinics at our Price office and those are Monday through Thursday, and there from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm every week. We also have our office over in Emery County and they do vaccines on Monday over there, and that from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm, over in Castle Dale,” said Yoklavich.
If any parents have questions about immunization, they are urged to contact the Southeastern Utah Health Department in Price at (435) 637-3671 or in Castle Dale at (435) 381-2252.
