carbon-dinos-2-2

With school starting on August 16, it’s almost time for Friday Night Lights for Carbon High football as they will get started this Friday August 4, with the Annual Blue and White Game.

With the season opener coming up next Friday, when the Dinos will welcome the Hillcrest Huskies. This Friday, it will be Dino vs. Dino on the field. The annual scrimmage game is always a time to look at what they have accomplished through summer as well as new faces in new places on both offense and defense.

Coach Phil Howa was a guest on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports and talked about some changes on the coaching staff and who will be under center for the Dinos this year as well.

“Brandon (Wilson) worked really well with the younger group of kids, and I just felt like it was a great time for him to come up with them because they understood each other and I wanted to give him a chance to take them to the next level. Jimmy and Nick moved down to the bottom, and I’d do the same in two years for them, if they bring these kids up and they’re successful, why not give them the chance to go to that varsity level with the kids that they’ve trained, I think it’s just continuity, you’ve got to have people that you can understand and you have to have people you can trust and that you care about. That’s the game, that’s football.”

Looking at the team as it stands with three returners on offense from last season, Howa would be the first to admit that they are young.

“We have a young group of kids but they got a lot of playing time, they played freshman, sophomore and varsity last year.”

Howa went on to add that overall they are going to be young but, they’ve got some good experience and the kids on the team know football.

Once again the Blue and White Game will take place at 6 p.m. this Friday August 4, on the field at Carbon High.
