It’s time to sit down with Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard who was happy to report on the Emery County Fair, discuss an upcoming baseball tournament and highlight the Miss Emery County Organization for a job well done. Castle Country Radio now has an opportunity every other week to speak with the commissioner to keep citizens informed on the latest news and events.

The Emery County Fair was brought back this year and citizens were very happy to see its return. “It was really well attended. A couple of things to note, Thursday we had Frontier Day and we were able to do some of the things we use to do before the Castle Valley Pageant. Then Friday and Saturday we had a great turnout, it was just really nice to get the community out and about again,” said Leonard. There were so many fun activities and events scheduled throughout the weekend this year that everyone seemed to enjoy themselves at the county fair.

The next big event taking place in Emery County this weekend is in Huntington for a baseball tournament. “So we’ll have a lot of baseball going on in Huntington this weekend the Battle Royale Baseball Tournament and so we’re excited to put that on and work with different teams the Battle Baseball group is also a partner in that one. So yea, it will be a good weekend of baseball,” said Leonard. To stay informed on the events taking place in Emery County visit The Swell Utah website at  https://theswellutah.com/

Each time Castle Country Radio sits down with Commissioner Leonard he likes to take a moment to recognize a department within the county for all their hard work. This time he wanted to highlight the Miss Emery County Organization. “They’ve done a fantastic job. There was the Emery County pageant and the new royalty, they’ve just been a great support. Not only were they everywhere at the county fair supporting things but they also go to business chamber, ribbon cuttings, a lot of different events they attend and support and so just wanted to give a shout out to them,” said Leonard. The Miss Emery County Organization will be busy this weekend too with their annual golf tournament held at Millsite Golf Course.

The Emery County Commissioners recently held a regular meeting where they were awarded some money for opioid prevention/education. “Emery County received Opioid Litigation Funds. These funds are supposed to be used for helping opioid addiction, opioid challenges that our communities have.  So we’ve looked at different entities that could potentially use this money to benefit our county,” said Leonard. Those organizations that could benefit from this money will be Four Corners Community Behavioral Health and the Utah State University’s HEART program. The county will keep a portion of the funds to work with the Emery Sheriff’s Office and Emery County School District.

The Emery County Commissioners meet twice a month at 3:00 pm at the Emery County Courthouse at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. A schedule of meetings is listed on the Emery County website at http://www.emerycounty.com/
