The Natural History Museum of Utah (NHMU) has a great program called the Explorer Corps which is a statewide road trip adventure. Senior Manager of External Communications, Beth Mitchell took time to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to share all the details with listeners.
The Explorer Corps Program is a statewide road trip adventure that was developed in 2021 and it offers 29 different destinations, one in each county of the state. Each destination has either natural or culture history in that particular county. “So these are off the beaten path usually, they are not National Parks, although some are State Parks. The coolest thing about this is not only do you have itineraries to travel around and find these markers, but using a Passport Booklet or the NHMU Explorer Corp app, which is brand new. You can find directions to the markers, you can create itineraries, and you can check-in that you visited these markers and earn rewards,” stated Mitchell. The brand-new Explorer Corp app is available for iOS or Android. A physical passport can be downloaded from the NHMU website at https://nhmu.utah.edu/
Once you download the app, you’ll be set for some road trips to see some great markers around the state. “Once you do that, you can go out and capture these marker visits and learn a few things, make a day of it. Its fun to do itineraries, where you hit a couple of markers within a day. Then within the app, we have access to the back end, and can figure out where you’ve been and are learning about how people have used the app, what they’re finding at the markers, and really getting some great stories, and we will shift rewards at the end of this summer,” explained Mitchell. You can also follow the Museum on Facebook and Instagram to learn more about Explorer Corps and to win prizes throughout the summer.
NHMU are offering an Ultimate Utah Road Trip Sweepstakes where a winner will be able to explore the state in a Winnebago. “You get entered in for a chance to win one of two free week-long rentals in a state-of-the-art RV. They got a bunch to choose from, you can sort of choose your own adventure, depending on like the trip you want to take and the amount of people in your party. But its super easy, if you go to our website, and you follow the sweepstakes link, you just quick sign-up, and then we will do the drawing right after Labor Day,” said Mitchell. Participants must be over the age of 25 as that is the required age to rent a vehicle in the state of Utah.
