The United Way of Eastern Utah is excited to be hosting its Second Annual Pop Up Shoe Shop on August 12 at 9:00 am at the Price City Peace Garden and Executive Director, Pam Boyd stopped by Castle Country Radio to share all the details.
“You know basically the thought is, you need to start your school year out on a strong footing, and so we are taking that very literally, starting kids out, you know, in a pair of shoes, quality pair of shoes that will fit them right,” said Boyd. The shoe shop is part of the Soles2Souls Program that is ran through the United Way of Eastern Utah office and is open to families with school-aged children from preschool to seniors in high school.
Last year organizers were surprised by the number of families that were in attendance for the first annual event. “It was the first year and we had 125 pairs of shoes that were gone in 20 minutes. So we started taking names, and phone numbers and we ordered shoes for people and we ended up giving out 282 pairs of shoes here in Price. So this year, we are better prepared, and we have 480 pair of brand new shoes, back-to-school shoes, that we’re going to fit up for kids and giveaway,” said Boyd. Organizers ask that parents please bring a pair of socks with them to the event so that their child can be better fitted for a pair of shoes.
The Soles2Souls Program would not be possible without the help from program sponsors. “We have wonderful sponsors. We are very, very, grateful to the Sorenson Legacy Foundation, Union Pacific Foundation, and Rocky Mountain Power – they’ve funded this program and made it possible for us to purchase the shoes and give them out,” said Boyd. Organizers hope that through the help from their generous sponsors, they are able to serve families through this wonderful shoe program better.
