Born in Dragerton, Utah in 1955 to Berta and Tito Carrillo. What amazing parents they were! Not only did they show love and support, but most important was a work ethic!

Hello Baby!!! That is how I would start my class each day. I graduated from East Carbon High School in 1974 where I played football as a middle linebacker. I love to hit and I was known for late hits and swearing, imagine that. I was also on the swim team and track team. I was sixth in state in the 2 mile. I also belonged to the Decca Club and Thespian Club. I also played on the baseball team as a catcher. I went on to play baseball for Coach Jensen at CEU on a baseball scholarship. I graduated from CEU in 1976. I was voted outstanding technical student in 1975 & 1976. I then went off to Southern Utah State College to receive my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Industrial Arts.

I took my first job at T.H. Bell in Ogden, Utah in 1978 and while I was there, I coached baseball. I was on my way to Arizona to teach when I was offered a job in 1979 at Mont Harmon Jr. High where I taught for 28 years and also helped with the football program. I was moved to Carbon High and finished my career there. If you ever messed up in Mr. C’s class you got the famous assignment to write: FOR SOME REASON OR ANOTHER…., I JUST CAN’T UNDERSTAND…etc. I taught for a total of 39 ½ years! I was voted teacher of the year for the extra mile award in 2005-2006. In 2006-2007 I was the Southeastern Utah Teacher of the Year overall winner for the Crystal Apple Award from Emery Telcom for Carbon and Emery Counties. I also received the Arch Coal Foundation Certificate of Recognition and Appreciation in 2009. I received outstanding teacher award from the Forest Scientific Corporation. I was awarded the Visionary Service Leader Award from Price Municipal Corporation in 2011. I was given UTEE Utah Technology & Engineering Educator in appreciation and recognition for 39 ½ years of outstanding service and dedication to Utah students in 2018.

I married a wonderful and amazing woman Alayne Young in 1988 at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. There was no task or job we could not do together. It was truly the best gift a man could have. Thank you, Mrs. C, I love you, Maynard. We had two wonderful and amazing children, Zade and Zander. How blessed I was to have these two young men in my life. A man could not ask for anything better. Between Mr. & Mrs. C, we have taught well over 10,000 individuals in Carbon County & Ogden Schools and have a combined total number of 72 years teaching, WOW.

I have had three businesses in the time that I taught school, Carrillo Redwood Burl Furniture, Tender Home Health Shuttle, both with my brother Juan, and Carrillo Towing. Its not often a man has two wonderful careers in a lifetime, teaching 39 ½ years and Carrillo Towing (Mr. and Mrs C’s quality time together) for the last 30+ years.

I also received the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce Customer Service Award. Throughout my adult life I have been involved in my church as an Altar Boy, Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Chair of the Oktoberfest a couple of times and I help every year with the Oktoberfest and St. Patrick’s Celebrations. I have also helped with the FOG program, Food Out Reach Program. I was a 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus and was on the color guard for 30 plus years. I was currently on the board at Carbon Medical. Alayne and I chaired NWTF (National Wild Turkey Federation) for 14 years as well as supporting other banquets like SFW (Sports, Fish and Wildlife), Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, making items for auction. Over my life, I can honestly say life has been good!
