Lady Spartan volleyball got back to work on Thursday in Monroe when they faced South Sevier. Battling through all five sets, Emery earned the 3-2 win.
Last season the Spartans bested Ogden for third place in 3A, after falling to eventual State Champion Morgan in the semi-finals, and although some of the faces have changed, the ones that remain are ready to go for the new season.
Almost every set against South Sevier was competitive, the Lady Spartans came out taking the first set 25-21, but would then turn around and suffer a tight loss in set number two by the score of 26-24. Set two must have taken a lot out of South Sevier because Emery walked away with the third set 25-8 and then would let set four slip away 25-18. The fifth and final set, which was once again played very closely went the the Spartans 15-10, sealing the 3-2 victory.
The Spartans are on the road Tuesday in Duchesne, and then will be back home on August 22 to face Delta for the Region 12 opener.
Game time against Delta in set for 6:30.
