USARA is hosting their Third Annual Recovery Day on Friday, September 8 at 3:00 pm at the Price City Peace Garden. Peer Recovery Coaches, Mersades Morgan and Kris Henderson both sat down with Castle Country Radio to talk about all the details.
“So USARA is an acronym that stands for Utah Support Advocates for Recovery Awareness and we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit. We have five locations throughout the state of Utah and one locally covering Carbon and Emery counties. We are a recovery center and we are available to anyone in the community, over the age of 18, that is looking for any recovery support services,” said Morgan. This organization is managed by individuals who themselves are in recovery of some sort so that makes it so they are relatable with their members.
USARA’s mission is to connect and inspire communities to advocate for addiction recovery. They host several meetings and events to assist its members and their families. This gathering for Recovery Day is a community wide event to help show support to those in recovery. “So its going to be on September 8 at the Peace Gardens, its going to be from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. We will have resources booths, we’ll have some games, bounce houses, we’re doing a chalk walk, a lot of family fun activities,” said Henderson. There will be a free dinner for the first 200 people who attend. There will also be a car giveaway by JN Auto, who will help someone in recovery with transportation.
There will be several local organizations on hand sharing information about what their agencies can do to help those in and seeking recovery. “We will have a resource fair at the beginning of the event where community members, people in recovery can come and find out what resources are actually available to them. Because a lot of the time there’s a lot more available than people realize. Its about moving some of those barriers, so opening the event to the community is going to be a stigma reduction as well,” said Morgan. USARA is working to find solutions and connect people to the resources they need to sustain their recovery for a lifetime.
This event would not be possible without the support of several local agencies who will also be in attendance at the Third Annual Recovery Day. “We are so fortunate to have the community partners that we do. We want to say thank you to Life Balance Recovery, Four Corners Community Behavioral Health, Carbon Medical, the Southeastern Utah Health Department, Southeastern Utah Association of Local Governments and Opioid & Substance Use Coalition, and everyone else, thank you,” said Morgan. Other organizations involved are the C.A.R.E. Coalition, HOPE Squad of Carbon, Emery & Grand Counties, Southeast Disease Prevention Coalition and USU Extension.
