Southeastern Utah Association of Local Government (SEUALG) is partnering with Welcoming America network to host a Welcoming Week event on Saturday, September 9 at noon. All the hoopla will take place at the SEUALG Building at 375 South Carbon Avenue in Price. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Community Services Program Manager, Julie Rosier to get all the details.
“Our agency partnered with Welcoming America and they help provide us with different tools and resources for our equity and diversity work that we are doing. Welcoming America has Welcoming Week every year and you can do it in all of your communities and regions. Its every September, so this year its Saturday, September 9. Welcoming Week is really when organizations and communities they bring together neighbors from all backgrounds, just to build strong connections and afform the importance of welcoming in inclusive places,” said Rosier. Organizers are excited to be hosting this event again this year as last year it was held in conjunction with the unveiling of the Bookcliff Mural.
The Welcoming Week event is the same day as United Way of Eastern Utah’s Day of Caring so they have decided to work together. “So Saturday, September 9 is United Way’s Day of Caring as well so we spoke with Pam Boyd from United Way of Eastern Utah. Typically, at the end of Day of Caring, they will go to the park and have a lunch there, but we’re going to have it at Southeastern Utah Association of Local Governments, right there on 375 South Carbon Avenue. Pam and I will do a welcoming introduction, and have lunch, there will be activities, a huge slide, I don’t know if anyone remembers that from last year, and just lots of fun things – free food, it will be awesome,” stated Rosier. Individuals/families are urged to assist with the United Way of Eastern Utah’s Day of Caring event in the morning then plan on attending the SEUALG’s Welcoming Week activity afterwards.
There will be guest speakers that will be in attendance at the Welcoming Week event. “Pam and I will do a welcome for everyone, then Mayor Michael Kourianos he will read and go through Price City’s newly adopted Welcoming and Belonging Proclamation. Representative Christine Watkins will also talk a little bit about equity and inclusion efforts. Sara Braby with the Health Department will talk on health equity and their efforts. Kate Kilpatrick, now Kate did the large mural on the Bookcliff building and she also did a couple of murals on Southeastern-UALG building and so Kate’s going to talk briefly about the equity and diversity piece of one of those murals, and then will have Clint Cottam there talking about digital equity,” said Rosier. This free event is open to all members in the community.
