It’s time to sit down with Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard to find out about the Catfish on the Green event, recognize the San Rafael Museum and announce the newly appointed board members. Castle Country Radio will now have an opportunity every other week to speak with the commissioner to keep citizens informed on the latest news and events.
The Third Annual Catfish on the Green Fishing Tournament took place this past weekend in Green River. The event was a huge success as Commissioner Leonard explains, “Yea, it was. There were 130 participants, the catfishing was actually pretty good. I was able to participate with my son and a couple of his friends, so we enjoyed the fishing tournament. The biggest catfish that came out that weekend was 30 inches and so a beautiful catfish. Anyway, it was good to get out and enjoy the Green River and so if there is any interest next year of people interested in catfishing, this will continue to run.” The next big event the City of Green River will see is their annual Melon Days Celebration set to take place September 15 and September 16. Right now, registration for the softball and golf tournaments is taking place. You can find out more information by visiting the Green River Melon Days website at https://www.melon-days.com/#/
The San Rafael Museum recently lost their director unexpectedly last week and the community is at a loss as she will be very hard to replace. “Just talking about it with a heavy heart, our museum director had passed away this last week and they just have done a fantastic job and we’re going to miss her. So if you have a chance to come through Castle Dale or Green River, stop by the museum. But yea, we did lose our director and we’re really sad about that and we just wanted to highlight them and all the work that they do to preserve our heritage,” stated Commissioner Leonard.
At the recent Emery County Commissioner Meeting there was an announcement made about a few new board members. “So we approved in commission yesterday, a few new board members so Travel Bureau, Lacy Hardman, Brad Walker, Terry Bennett, and Danny VanWagoner to serve on the Tourism Board. We also approved Nicole Steele on our Emery County Economic Development Board. So those are some boards that are important to our community to help grow our community not only economically, but look at using those TRT dollars to benefit the community as well through the Tourism Board. So we’ll be happy to have them on board,” explained Commissioner Leonard.
The Emery County Commissioners meet twice a month at 3:00 pm at the Emery County Courthouse at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. A schedule of meetings is listed on the Emery County website at http://www.emerycounty.com/
