The Carbon Dinos earned a team victory for the first time this season against a field of seven others Tuesday afternoon at the Palisade Golf Course in Sterling.
Led by Rydge Butler, the Dinos ended with a team score of 328, topping the Richfield Wildcats by three strokes. Juab finished in third, just five strokes off the lead. Delta and Manti completed the top five, followed by Emery, Canyon View, and North Sanpete.
Individually Butler finished at the top of the leaderboard with a 75. Butler dominated on the front nine with two birdies to shoot a 35. With one birdie on the back nine Butler finished with a 40, giving him a comfortable four stroke win over four others who tied for second.
Dayton King ended second on the team with an 81. Kyler Clark was third with an 84, followed by Cole Callahan’s 88 to round out the team’s score. Both Jack Hedin and Sam Madrid shot a 92, placing their scores just outside the team total.
Champ Justice posted the lowest score for the Emery Spartans as he finished with an 86, topping teammate Dempsey Toomer by one stroke. Kage Van Wagoner delivered a 90 and Alex Hansen gave the Spartans its fourth score at 91. Both Turner Stoker and Joey Leonard shot a 94.
The results of Tuesday’s meet did not affect the top of the Region 12 standings as Richfield, Juab and Carbon remain in the top three. Delta managed to make the biggest jump, passing Emery for fourth place. The Spartans now sit in fifth, 34-strokes ahead of Canyon View. Manti and North Sanpete are currently the two bottom teams.
There will be an eight day pause in region play before the eight schools resume the season. On Wednesday, Aug. 30 the Delta Rabbits will host the other seven teams. That meet will serve as the halfway point for the league schedule.
