It’s time for Ferron City’s annual town celebration, Peach Days is set to take place the week of September 6. Mayor Adele Justice took time to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details of the celebration.
“So we love Peach Days in Ferron and we’ve been doing it for so many years we’ve lost count. It’s a great opportunity for families to get together and for kids to come home and see their families. We just love having a fun time,” said Mayor Justice. The Peach Days activities will kick off on Wednesday, September 6 with the annual bike ride and giveaway at the Mayor’s Park at 6:00 pm. There will be three different routes that riders can choose before ending up back at the park.
On Thursday, September 7 at 6 pm will be the Sidewalk Picasso activity for families to participate in. “The kids can come out and draw on the sidewalks with chalk and we give prizes away for the drawings. Then we also have our Dessert Contest which is popular every year as well. This year I’m not sure exactly what the categories are going to be but that information will be out soon. You can make a dessert, bring it down, and we’ll have plenty to share with everybody while the kids are decorating the sidewalk,” said Mayor Justice. All the chalk will be provided for the kids to make colorful pictures.
Then on Friday, September 8 beginning at 5:30 pm there will be music in the park, followed by the annual town dinner at 6:00 pm. “So we’re having a pulled pork dinner this year, Council Member Richmond and his family have worked hard on this and they do a fantastic job of serving and having great food for us. It’s a free dinner for our Ferron citizens so there is no charge. We just love you to come out and have dinner with us. Right as soon as we’re finished with dinner, Council Member Mead has prepared a game show. We did this for the first-time last year and it was a lot of fun and so tonight we’re going to move it up to our dinner venue and as soon as we’re done with dinner, we’re going to give away some really great prizes,” said Mayor Justice. Both the dinner and the game show will take place at the Mayor’s Park.
The last day of Peach Days will start bright and early on Saturday with the annual 5K Fun Run at 6:30 am. After the run at 7:30 am the Field of Flags Morning Service will be held at the church on the hill. “I have loved this event from it’s beginning. We have about 400 or so flags that we put up in the park there. They do a little sunrise service and a 21-gun salute at 7:30 am. Some years it’s a little bit nippy out so bring your jackets and your blanket if you want. But don’t miss it because it is just a wonderful patriotic program. It’s short and sweet and it really sets the tone especially with 9/11 right around the corner it is just a real awe-inspiring time,” said Mayor Justice. The parade will then start at 10:00 am on Millroad State Street. The Fun Day activities will be held at the Fairgrounds Park this year, there will be vendors, music, horse races, cornhole tournament, and a performance by the Hypno Hick. The day will close out with a beautiful firework display at dusk.
