The United Way of Eastern Utah stopped by Castle Country Radio to talk about their upcoming Day of Caring event set to take place on Saturday, September 9. They would like to invite the community to come out for this gathering of volunteerism.
“We are going to get started at 7:30 am everybody can gather at the parking lot at Lin’s. We’ll give you a little breakfast and get you ready, get you signed up to a project, and send you on your way,” said Director, Pam Boyd. If any civic groups, companies, families and sports groups would like to volunteer just show up. This is open to all ages willing to donate a Saturday morning to help beautify the community.
This event is one of the largest single-day of volunteerism in Carbon County. “You know that’s the great thing about United Way’s Day of Caring is that we both do community events, large scale events. I use the phrase ants on a cupcake, you know, you have a project, and you have a lot of people tackling it. Then we also have, you know, smaller groups that go out and help people get weeds pulled in their yard or get their bushes trimmed or trash picked up or whatever but at private residences. So you know we probably have capacity for a couple more of those,” said Boyd. Volunteers are asked to please wear appropriate clothing and shoes, bring sunscreen, work gloves and tools to assist with some of the scheduled projects
Once the Day of Caring has concluded at noon all the volunteers will be fed at the Southeastern Utah Association of Local Governments Welcome Week event being held at their offices at 375 South Carbon Avenue. “You know the Southeastern Utah Association of Local Governments has a kick off for their Welcome Week activities. Instead of having competing events we decided the more the merrier, you know lets do a collaborative event. So our ending luncheon is also going to be their kick-off luncheon, so you can come, get a sack lunch, we have baked goods coming. The conclusion picnic is great, it’s a really fun time. Lot of people do their project, and then figure they have done their deed, and they have, but you’re missing out on a lot of the fun is you don’t come to the end,” said Boyd. This luncheon is a way for the organization to say thank you for a job well done.
