It’s time to sit down with Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard who was happy to talk about upcoming events, highlight the Travel Office for a job well done and what’s new with the Emery County Commissioners. Castle Country Radio now has an opportunity every other week to speak with the commissioner to keep citizens informed on the latest news and events.

End of the summer events are approaching with the Peach Days celebration held this weekend in Ferron and Melon Days in Green River on September 15 and September 16.  “Peach Days this weekend in Ferron. A couple of cool things going on there would be a golf tournament on Saturday, a squatting competition, that might be fun for you, but all the other Peach Days events this weekend. Melon Days next weekend, softball tournament, parade, and the whole thing. So that’s always a fun one in Green River,” said Commissioner Leonard. This is a perfect opportunity to enjoy small town celebrations with family and friends.

Each time Castle Country Radio sits down with Commissioner Leonard he likes to take a moment to recognize a department within the county for all their hard work. This time he wanted to highlight the Travel Office. “The Travel Office they’ve been fantastic. Just supporting activities and events throughout the county. They also are in charge of the museum and archives for the county which are really important for our history and heritage through the archives, as well as the museum. So the Travel Office they manage a lot. They also help with county events, so just want to give a shout out to them,” stated Commissioner Leonard. So if you have a chance stop by the Travel Office to thank them for a job well done.

The Emery County Commissioners recently held a regular meeting where they rearranged some in office responsibilities. “There was a shift in responsibilities in the Commission Office. Commissioner Keven Jensen will be the new chairman for the office, so that will be good. So yea, just a little shift in responsibilities. Lynn’s done a great job for a lot of years and so giving him kudos for the work that he has done the last many years as chairman,” said Commissioner Leonard.

Property Taxes may be weighing heavily on some residents’ minds, if you feel there’s an issue with your property tax notice, you’re urged to get in contact with county assessor’s office. “We’re trying to do the best we can to fight for our citizens to lower those tax rates. We’ve had a lot of meetings, but we just want to get the information out there. If you have an appraisal or are concerned about your property taxes, please, you know find an appointment with our assessor’s office, get a meeting with the Board of Equalization, so that we can look at your property and see what we can try to do to help,” said Commissioner Leonard. The Emery County Assessor’s Office can be reached at (435) 381-3540.

The Emery County Commissioners meet twice a month at 3:00 pm at the Emery County Courthouse at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. A schedule of meetings is listed on the Emery County website at http://www.emerycounty.com/
