With just nine more regular season matches left, the Emery Lady Spartans are a perfect 14-0. When they traveled to Mount Pleasant on Thursday to face the North Sanpete Hawks, a team that they are very familiar with, Emery was pushed to the brink but after all was said and done the Spartans came away with the 3-2 win.
Emery has faced the Hawks earlier this season in tournament play taking the quick 2-0 win, the region meeting on Thursday would cause the Spartans to dig down and see what they were made of.
North Sanpete came out and earned wins in the first two sets 25-23 and 28-26.
The Spartans came out firing in the third set taking the 25-18 win. Set number four was a little closer but Emery was able to capture the win in that one as well 25-20. In the fifth and final set Emery was looking to keep that perfect record going and defeated the Hawks 15-10, taking the match 3-2.
On Monday, Emery will find out just what that 14-0 record gets them as the initial RPI for volleyball will be released by the Utah High School Activities Association. That number will then be updated after every match until the end of the regular season, when the final number will be used for seeding in the 3A State Volleyball Championships which begin on October 21.
Emery will be back on the court on Tuesday September 12, when they travel to Cedar City to face Canyon View.
