Active Re-Entry is hosting their annual Run, Walk & Roll for Independence 5K on Saturday, September 16 at 8:00 am at their building located at 10 South Fairgrounds Road in Price. Program Manager, Chris Haycock stopped by to talk about all the details with Castle Country Radio.

Event Organizers are so excited to be hosting this event this year as this is the 20th annual.  “About 20 years ago, the six directors in the state of Utah, from the independent living centers, got together and planned this event for each region of the state to host one – same day, same time, everybody would be out having a 5K at the same time. Years went on, things have changed, we’re still doing this, this is our one big fundraiser per year that we try to do and try to keep a hold of that history,” said Haycock. This is a community wide event open to all residents in the Castle Country area.

There is no registration/participation fee associated with this race. The race will begin and end at Active Re-Entry’s building on Fairgrounds Road. “So registration, you can be out there a little before 8:00 am. Registration starts at 8:00 am.  You don’t have to pre-register if you come out that day, it’s perfectly fine. Then the race kicks off at 8:30 am. It’s a really pretty route, goes up towards the Senior Center, and out towards Pinnacle Peak, and it’s an out and back,” said Haycock. Not only is this an opportunity to exercise but participants can learn more about the various services that are offered at Active Re-Entry.

“We’re going to have a pancake breakfast, starting right after the first person gets back, we’ll start serving up pancakes and breakfast to everybody,” said Haycock. The cost to enjoy the breakfast is a small donation of $5.00. This fundraising event helps to boost those programs that are offered through Active Re-Entry.

If you are a business that would like to be a sponsor for Active Re-Entry’s Run, Walk & Roll for Independence 5K you have till September 14 to be included in signage. “We would like to have those sponsors in by Wednesday that way we can get any signage or anything from that business and put out there at Active Re-Entry or along the route, as well, to thank you. So if you’re sponsoring, we definitely will take a banner,” said Haycock.
