The Third Annual Go Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Memorial Walk will take place on September 23 at 8:00 am at the Price River Walkway. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Event Organizer, Landrie Anderson who spoke on how she came up with the idea.

“When I was planning this, it was September and I kind of took inspiration from kindness rocks in general, and I just wanted it to mean something to a more specific group of people. You don’t really realize how much childhood cancer affects everybody around you, especially, within our community until you start doing something like this. I know I wanted to keep doing it and make it an annual event,” said Anderson. This event was a two-part activity as earlier in the month the group gathered to paint the rocks that will be on display at the tree at the end of the walk on Saturday.

If you were unable to attend the rock painting portion of this event you still have time to paint a rock and have it included in the memorial. “So I do have quite a few rocks left that they can contact me at my email, gogoldmemorial@gmail.com or any of my social medias. I can get one delivered to them, I can paint one for you, if you want me to put a name or memory or anything like that. Or even if you just want to paint your own and bring it on Saturday, anything can be added to the memorial,” said Anderson. The rocks that were designed this year will be added to the previous years rocks that are currently on display at the south end of the Price River Walkway.

The walk will begin on Saturday morning at the north end of the Price River Walkway which is the entrance near JBs Restaurant. “So yea, everyone kind of gathers, I have a little speech I say. So you get to spend the whole trail talking and getting to know each other – the new people that come to the event and just showing your support for each other and the cause,” stated Anderson. This is event is free and open to everyone in the community.
