The Carbon School District update took time to shine a spotlight on Wellington Elementary this week and Castle Country Radio was able to speak with Principal, Paulie Vogrinec to see how things are going so far this school year.

“You know what, they are going really well. We’ve had a great start to our year, we had a great kick-off assembly, and it was a lot of fun with the kids to kick off the year. Look at what our goals are, and we have like a Mario theme this year so we’re kind of going along with that. We played a lot of fun games and different things to compete, and just kick-off the year on a positive start,” said Principal Vogrinec. The entire school is excited for another successful year and looking forward to accomplishing all their school-wide goals.

With the month of September coming to an end it’s now time for Warrior Awards. This month students were encouraged to know the school rules and procedures. “We really focus on teaching and practicing and we look for students who have really excelled. So they are recognized at an assembly on Friday and so I’m excited. This is the first time since COVID, and I’ve been there, we’re starting to get parents back in. So parents have been, if their child is getting an award, they’ve kind of been called on the quiet because they’re kid doesn’t know; to be there to support their kids and see them get this award,” said Principal Vogrinec. The Warrior Awards are given out each month during school assemblies.

School attendance is very important and the school is recognizing outstanding students who attend regularly. “The kids get Warrior Pride tickets for going above and beyond or following directions. So they get, we have a big fish bowl that we draw tickets out of, and then we also recognize them during that assembly, attendance. So we draw so many names for kids who have been there 95 percent of the time. Then we also recognize and draw out a child and their family get a certificate to go for pizza. Because it’s a group effort to get kids to school, so parents and families should be recognized as well for their efforts to get their kids at school,” explained Principal Vogrinec. Attendance awards will also be award during Friday’s assembly.

The school is pushing hard to promote positive relationships among students, their families, faculty and staff. “We’re really promoting those positive relationships with families. The teachers weekly will send out postcards for things that they’ve noticed going on with students in their classrooms, making those positive phone calls. So just building those relationships and getting those positive things with students and teachers, administration with families, teachers, so just building whole community. Because it takes us all to work together to make school for kids very successful,” said Principal Vogrinec.
