Clay L. Fullmer, age 63, passed away at his home in his beloved Ferron, Utah on September 26, 2023. He was born August 3, 1960 in Kanab, Utah to Jay Howard Fullmer and Jackie Gai Chynoweth Fullmer.
Clay lived in many different places throughout his childhood including Blanding, Ogden, and Star Ranch to name a few. After graduating from Emery High School in 1978, he lived in Provo where he attended college but was drawn back to the town he loved, Ferron, where he had the best view in town. He then went to work for Wilberg and Trail Mountain coal mines where he worked until he eventually retired. After his time in the mines he worked for Ferron City, Corlett Express, and Pierce Oil.
Clay and his brother Kenneth were very close and wild in their younger days. They loved to ride snowmobiles and motorcycles, drive fast cars, including his beloved red Fierro, and do anything those two could do to cause trouble, but have a whole lot of fun doing it. Then along came his little sister Jaylene whom he adored and loved to tease. Clay and Ken loved having a much younger sister and used to throw her back and forth across the living room to hear her laughs.
Later in life he loved hunting, fishing, camping, looking for arrowheads, and hiking in the desert. Something he looked forward to the most were the trips he would take with his good friend Kip Allred and cousin Larry Pollock where they would go to Lake Powell on the boat, go on camping trips and explore all over southern Utah in Kip’s Razor. Clay loved everything outdoors, especially his amazing garden.
Through his only marriage lasted from 1994 until 2001, Clay gained three beautiful children: Justin, Jordan, and Whitney, along with a stepdaughter, Veronica. Clay worked very hard to provide for his family and give them a good life. He made sure to teach them the value of hard work and loving the family you chose to be yours. From his kids: he chose to be our dad and there’s not a better man that could have raised us. We are very blessed and thankful to call him our dad.
Clay was a very devoted son, brother, father, and grandfather. Spending time with his grandchildren was one of his favorite things, like helping paint nails, catching a fish, or even just sitting them next to him and watching westerns or Nascar together.
Everyone knew Clay for his serious demeanor, but those who were close to him got to see the funny, soft, caring side of him. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for his family, much like the devotion he showed to his parents, time and time again. Clay was always there when someone needed him. He will be remembered for his quick humor, homemade salsa and C’Basco.
Clay is survived by his children, Justin (Samantha) Fullmer of West Valley, Utah, Jordan (Katya) Fullmer of Magna, Utah, Whitney (Buck) Healy of Meeker, Colorado; stepdaughter, Veronica Waldram of Kearns, Utah; three grandchildren so far, and three step-grandchildren; siblings, Kenneth Fullmer of Ferron, Utah and Jaylene (Cory) Shurtleff of Grand Junction, Colorado; uncle, Lane (Marlene) Chynoweth of Ferron; Utah along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Jackie Fullmer; baby brother, Jay Fullmer Jr.; grandparents, Larence and Lavina Chynoweth; along with 9 aunts and uncles.
