William Roger Skaggs, 77, passed away September 26, 2023, while surrounded by his family at the Utah Valley Specialty Hospital in Provo.

He was born May 7, 1946 in Price, Utah to Willie L. and Frances Kuretich Skaggs. After returning from Vietnam, Roger married Margaret Ann Perla on November 11, 1968 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Roger was a member of the Catholic Church and a proud Vietnam Veteran who served in the US Army.  He was a lifelong resident of Carbon County and a graduate of Carbon High Class of 1964.  Roger also graduated from Carbon College/College of Eastern Utah and later attended Utah State University in Logan.  He was a tireless worker who worked at Kaiser and Swisher Coal Mines, and eventually retired from Plateau Coal Mine where he was respected by his co-workers.

Roger was an avid outdoorsman who loved exploring, hunting, fishing, camping and  prospecting with family and friends.  He also shared a special love for music, especially playing the piano and guitar.  Roger was willing to help anyone in need, and it was shared that he could build anything and fix almost everything.

Roger adored his family and he cherished the memories shared with his grandchildren. It was said, that Roger cherished his grandkids more than his kids, and his great-grandkids more than his grandkids.  Roger always had M&M’s and marshmallows near his chair for all to enjoy.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Skaggs, Spring Glen; three daughters and one son, Barbara (David) Scoggins, Spring Glen; Kathy Scovill, Price; Billy (Angela) Skaggs, Spring Glen; Sherry (John) Salazar, Price; sister, LaFaye (David) Fahl, Draper; sisters-in-law, Gladys and Patty Perla; many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and beloved nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, John Perla, Jr.;  and in-laws, John (Margaret) Perla.

Graveside service, Monday October 2, 2023, 2:00 p.m., Cliffview Cemetery, Price. Family will receive friends at Mitchell Funeral Home Monday from 12:30-1:30 p.m.  Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are welcome daily and may share memories of Roger at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
