It’s time to sit down with Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard who was happy to highlight Joe’s Valley Fest, mentioned the upcoming Paranormal Con, and discussed the recent commissioner’s meeting. Castle Country Radio now has the opportunity every other week to speak with the commissioner to keep citizens informed on the latest news and events.
The county recently saw an increase of rock climbers in the area during the annual Joe’s Valley Fest held last weekend. There were visitors from all over the country that attended this event that held numerous activities in both Castle Dale and Orangeville. Commissioner Leonard took time to thank the group for a job well done, “The goal of the fest is to help combine the relationship between the rock climbers and the locals to get to know each other. Help bring our rock climbers into the businesses to spend money. Really good event, we just want to thank the committee, the board, for putting that on, it’s a lot of work.”
The next big event taking place in the county is the Museum of the San Rafael’s Third Annual EmCo Paranormal Con on October 13 and October 14 in Castle Dale. “There will be vendors, different activities for the kids, games, scavenger hunts, a costume contest. So yea, a lot of fun things going on with the Paranormal Con. If you’re interested you can go to the chttps://www.museumofthesanrafael.org/ to learn more information about that event this coming weekend,” Commissioner Leonard. The is a great family friendly event with keynote speakers and fun activities to enjoy during the two-day event.
During the recent Commissioner’s Meeting approval was made on a new HVAC system for the Sheriff’s facility. “We’re looking to redo the HVAC system. We are using ARPA funds, which would be COVID funds to pay for the new HVAC system. It will be nice for the jail, I think its 21 to 23 years old – something around there. So its starting to go out and we’ve needed a new system out there so that we approved,” said Commissioner Leonard.
Another topic discussed during the regular meeting was in regards to a land swap between the county and Huntington city. This is concerning a sliver of land that the county owns near the softball complex, that when developed, it could be very beneficial for the entire community. “It opens up for the county a piece of land for a new Senior Center, so we’re excited about what that offers to Huntington City and their plans, and the county wanting to work with Huntington City to build a new Senior Center. The Senior Center will also be paid for with COVID funds, if everything goes through, as well as CIB funds,” stated Commissioner Leonard. Right now, officials are going through the process which means that they approved a warranty deed on the parcel.
The Emery County Commissioners meet twice a month at 3:00 pm at the Emery County Courthouse at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. A schedule of meetings is listed on the Emery County website at http://www.emerycounty.com/
