With the season winding down the Lady Spartans volleyball team traveled to Richfield to take on teams from around the state in the Sevier Valley Tournament. The two day event took place at the Sevier Valley Center on the campus of Snow College, on Saturday, Emery returned home with a record of 4-1 moving their season record to 22-4.
The Spartans faced five teams over two days starting on Friday. Emery has just three matches remaining on their schedule until the regular season comes to an end on October 17.
Up first on Friday, was a meeting with Grantsville. The Lady Spartans made quick work of them in three sets, 25-9, 25-7, and 25-19. The last match on Friday night was against San Juan, the first set was all Spartans 25-14. The next two were played pretty close and both went down to the wire with Emery winning both by the same 25-23 score, to seal the straight set win.
On Saturday the Spartans faced Kanab, the No. 2 team in the 2A ranks. The Spartans struggled in the first two sets falling 25-15 and 25-22. Emery came back in set three to sneak away with a 25-16 victory, but Kanab came back taking the fourth set 25-16 and handing Emery their only loss of the weekend. After the loss the Lady Spartans had to turn around and take on Panguitch. This was another hard fought battle with the Spartans taking a win in sets one and two by the identical 26-24 score. The third and final set went to Emery 25-15.
In the final match of the weekend Emery would square off with host team Richfield. These two teams know each other very well, being in the same region they have faced each other once before in Castle Dale in a match that went the distance, with Emery getting the 3-2 win. The Spartans only needed three sets this time around earning the win 25-21, 25-21, and 25-19.
