Sutherlands will be hosting a Great Pumpkin Competition on Saturday, October 14 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Sutherlands Parking Lot at 406 State Hwy 55. This event is to help raise funds for the Carbon County Food Bank.
“This event is really a fundraiser for the local food bank. We are weighing pumpkins to raise money for Carbon County Food Bank and every pound weighed is money raised thanks to our generous businesses here in Price, Eastern Utah. But we’re calling it the Great Pumpkin Competition and it’s kind of two events really. Number one is if you grow your own pumpkin, we want it, we want to weight it and the person with the largest pumpkin is going to get a Sutherlands gift card and a few other prizes,” said Store Manager, Kyle Heffernan. Everyone in the community is invited to participate in this great fundraising event.
Organizers have set a goal of 2,500 pounds as Heffernan explains, “We want everyone to bring pumpkins in. Doesn’t matter if you raised it yourself or bought it at the store and we’re going to weigh it and we hope to get 2,500 pounds of pumpkin here, and of course you get to take them all home to make pumpkin pie. But we have local businesses who are donating a $1.00 per pound to raise $2,500.00 for our food bank to help people out.” Not only will folks be able to see all the various pumpkins getting weighed but they will be able to enjoy some fun activities, treats, games and prizes.
The Farmers Market will be taking place during the event so guests can visit those booths during the event as well. “There’s a lot to see, you know it’s just not all about pumpkins and helping the Food Bank out, but there’s going to be some good food and some other Knick knacks to buy too. We also have a few food trucks, Desert Sage Donuts, will be here selling their donuts and they are delicious. We have the Coyote’s Well Mobile Coffee Truck, and I’m sure you’ve had it but they are amazing, we love having them,” said Heffernan. Again, this is a free event open to the public on Saturday, October 14 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Sutherlands Parking Lot.
