017-9

Carbon soccer entered into the post-season on Wednesday when they welcomed Ben Lomond to Price for the opening round of the State Soccer Championships. Playing to a 1-1 tie at halftime, Carbon turned on the defense and found just enough offense to take the 2-1 win.

Carbon came into the game with the No. 7 spot in the RPI with their 10-6 overall record. Ben Lomond was No. 10 with a 5-9 mark.

The opening half was both teams fighting each other and went into the break tied. The Lady Dinos came out in the second half, finding the back of the net and claimed the 2-1 win advancing to the quarterfinals.

Carbon’s Bailey Johnson put one through the pipes and also earned an assist in the win, Allie Smith claimed the other. Amiah Timothy added an assist as well, and Fortune Ward collected eight saves.

The Dinos now prepare to make a trip to Ogden to face the No. 2 Tigers. Ogden ended the regular season with a 14-2 record, and are coming off a first round dismantling of Providence Hall 7-0.

Game time is set for 1:00 p.m., in Ogden.
