Our beautiful, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Evangeline “Vange” Platis Byrd Raber, age 93, passed away October 16, 2023 at her home.

Vange was born on August 29, 1930 in Price, Utah, she was one of 13 children of Gust and Matilda Hvala Platis. Vange worked in the family business, the Century Café in Price where she was blessed to work alongside family. Vange moved to Raleigh, North Carolina to visit a family friend, this is where she met and married Richard Byrd in 1957. They had three sons, Roger, Jonathan and Richard; prior to being widowed in 1976.

In 1978, Vange met Steven Raber and they were married in 2001. She became a grandmother in 1986, and again in 1990, and she was affectionately nicknamed “Hammy” by her precious grandchildren Kennedy and Carson. Vange enjoyed fishing, gambling with friends in Wendover, taking road trips across the states, and family reunions in Las Vegas. She was a member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church and the Philoptochos Society.

Vange believed family was the greatest value in life and she loved her husband, sons, and grandchildren fiercely. She treasured barbecues with her parents and siblings, the Platis family reunions in Las Vegas, and any time she could just sit and chat with you or quietly watch the birds from her back porch. Vange was a smart, funny, caring person who always thought of others before herself. She will be greatly missed by many. “May Her Memory Be Eternal.”

Funeral service, Saturday, October 21, 2023, 11:00 a.m., Assumption Greek Orthodox Church (61 South 200 East, Price, Utah). Trisagion Service, Friday evening, 7:00 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street) in Price where the family will receive friends Friday and Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment, Price City Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Mitchell Funeral Home of Price and Huntington where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Vange online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
