The Family Support and Children’s Justice Center has changed things up this year and are going to host a Halloween Carnival on Monday, October 30 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at their location on 80 South Fairgrounds Road.
“We decided to do a more carnival style Halloween event for the kiddos in the community. We’re not going to be able to do our spook alley that we usually offer which has been a fun activity we provide. So instead, we’re going to have games, and prizes, popcorn, and cotton candy and just games and prizes for all the kids in the families,” said Director Shelley Wright. Organizers thought that a carnival style event would give the children more activities to enjoy. The Fairgrounds Road can get very chaotic so the neighboring organization, Active Re-Entry, is going to allow guests to use their parking lot during the event.
The Family Support and Children’s Justice Center serves our community by helping children and their families build stronger and healthier Relationships. One of the programs that is offered to families is Respite Childcare as Wright explains, “Respite Care the purpose of it is just try to reduce the level of stress that families go through, especially during the holiday season. Take a little mental health break and just take care of you, let us take care of the kids.” Respite Childcare is intended to be a means of preventing abuse and reducing parental stress and or a strained relationship. We do not provide childcare while parents go to work or attend school.
The center is divided among two separate but compatible programs, The Family Support Center, and the Children’s Justice Center. The Family Support Center offers crisis/respite child care, provides parent education classes, offers home visiting services, and serves as the community outreach hub. The Children’s Justice Center coordinates a multi-disciplinary approach to child abuse investigations, offers trauma treatment to child abuse victims, and provides onsite medical evaluations and exams to children who may have been sexually or physically abused.
