The Carbon School District weekly update brings attention to Mont Harmon Middle School Student Government. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Student Body Representative, Bryken Preston to talk about upcoming Red Ribbon week activities.
Red Ribbon Week generally takes place during the month of October and its mission is to help keep kids drug-free. During this week there are several different themes and activities set for the week that the Student Government organizes. “So Red Ribbon week is basically about like don’t doing drugs or alcohol. Everyday during certain week, we do like dress up stuff and we do different lunch activities and it’s just really fun. But everything is related to don’t do drugs, don’t do alcohol, and we have different phrases,” said Preston. Red Ribbon week is the nation’s largest and longest running drug-use prevention campaign.
Students, faculty and staff look forward to Red Ribbon week every year. This year the Student Government got all the faculty and staff to participate in one of the activities for Red Ribbon Week. “I like planning activities, its super fun. In fact, we did this thing where we went around a took pictures of all the teachers and staff hands. Then the students are going to have to guess, which hand is that. It’s All Hands On Deck at Mont Harmon, we’re all drug free,” said Preston. Further details about the week-long activities will be shared on the school’s Facebook page.
