It’s time to sit down with Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard who was happy to highlight an upcoming event, recognize the county library, and discuss the recent commissioner’s meeting. Castle Country Radio now has the opportunity every other week to speak with the commissioner to keep citizens informed on the latest news and events.
The Emery Historical Society will be hosting an event on Thursday, October 26 that is sure to be very entertaining for folks. “That’ll be a good opportunity to hear about the Swasey Leap, a lot of different history stories with the Swaseys and some cool stories about our heritage and community. So that would be a good one to come out to if you’re interested in the history of Emery County and the Swaseys,” said Commissioner Leonard. The event will take place in the Swell Room of the Old Courthouse in Castle Dale. Memberships dues are $5.00 per year but will increase to $10.00 per year starting in January.
Each time Castle Country Radio sits down with Commissioner Leonard he likes to take a moment to recognize a department within the county for all their hard work. Although the library has been highlighted in the past, he still felt that with all their hard work they put in for the solar eclipse needed to be recognized. “Yea, definitely wanted to give a shoutout to the library. I think we all enjoyed the solar eclipse, but they were able to get a lot of those glasses out to the community last month, so people could come in a grab them for free. So they distributed lots of those solar glasses out for us. They also received a grant for a snow cone machine and a cotton candy machine, and I think they were able to get a couple of other things to support the community,” said Leonard. The library is very excited to be receiving these items to better serve the community.
At the last Commissioner’s Meeting there was further discussion on the land swap deal with Huntington. “The commission has been working with CIB to secure some funding. We’ve been able to use some COVID funding and we’ve been working with Huntington City on land swap to secure some land to build a new Senior Center in Huntington. So we had a Public Hearing to talk to the community and get a response from them on how they feel about it, and it was really positive. So we’re excited to move forward on the new Senior Center in Huntington,” said Commissioner Leonard. This facility will be a great addition to the county and to the local senior citizens.
The Emery County Commissioners meet twice a month at 3:00 pm at the Emery County Courthouse at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. A schedule of meetings is listed on the Emery County website at http://www.emerycounty.com/
