Dalyce Marcene Walley Whitmire, 85, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023, surrounded by family.
Mom was born September 9, 1938, in Cheyenne, Wyoming to the late Leslie Walley and Dalyce Verna Gutman. She had one older brother and two younger sisters.
She was raised in Cheyenne and married Glen Woodruff in 1956 (marriage solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple). Together they had five children. They moved several times during the next few years following his employment, from Colorado to Texas to California where they raised their children.
Mom was very talented in a lot of areas, including singing, songwriting, poetry, painting, gardening and cooking. She authored several books, was gifted at working with animals and loved being in nature. She was well-known for her sense of humor (particularly in making puns) and her positive outlook on life. These many skills and abilities helped her make friends wherever she resided. After her divorce she lived and worked in several different states, having grand experiences along the way.
Mom truly enjoyed going to the Senior Center where she was affectionately known as “Daffy Dalyce.” She loved making people laugh.
Dalyce served two missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the Lord her whole life and never missed an opportunity to share her testimony of Jesus Christ.
She was employed as a bookkeeper, cartographer, census taker, hotel clerk, secretary, receptionist, cashier, and whatever else caught her fancy during her travels.
Mom is survived by two sisters, Cheryl Smith and Lorrayne Haynes; children, Mona (Jamie) Mills, Gary Woodruff, Amy (Jay) Dinkelman, and David (Lisa) Woodruff; daughter-in-law, Eva Woodruff.
Dalyce was preceded in death by her brother, John Walley; and oldest son, Jeffrey Woodruff.
Mom was the proud matriarch of 21 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Celebration of Life service, Saturday, November 4, 2023, 1 p.m., at the Price Stake Center (150 South 500 East, Price, Utah).
Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price and Huntington where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Dalyce online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
