
Nels Gary Hansen, 84, of Emery, Utah, passed away on October 27, 2023. He was born on January 21, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Nels Abelin and Maggie Bell Beal Hansen. On November 14, 1958 he married the love of his life, Vietta Loy Bawden. Gary, as he preferred to be called, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
Gary was a man of many talents and interests. He loved his family fiercely and unconditionally. He was passionate about hunting and fishing and could fix and build anything with his hands. Gary had a successful career as a heavy-duty diesel mechanic, using his skills to keep equipment running smoothly.
In his free time, Gary enjoyed various hobbies, including hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, playing horseshoes, water skiing, and working with leather. These activities brought him joy and allowed him to connect with nature and his loved ones. Gary will be deeply missed by his family.
Gary was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and found peace in his faith. Gary leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and determination. He will be remembered for his kind heart, his unwavering support for his family, and his ability to bring people together. He will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his sons, Robert (Kim) Hansen, Richard Hansen, and Kris (Jolynn) Hansen; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vietta Loy Hansen; his father, Nels Hansen; his mother, Maggie Hansen; his sister, Jennie Thomas; and his sister, Maureen Tuttle. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Layton.
Services to celebrate Gary’s life will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, in Emery. The services will begin with a viewing from 12:30-1:30 p.m., at the Emery Town Recreation Center, followed by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at the Emery Cemetery. Following the graveside a celebration of life will take place at the Emery Town Recreation Center.
