The local Soroptimist International of Price group is excited to be hosting their 50th Golden Anniversary Charity Benefit on Saturday, November 18 at 6:00 pm at the Carbon Country Club. This annual affair is open to anyone over the age of 21 years old as there will be adult beverages served during the event, and cocktail attire is suggested. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Club Members, Terry Willis and Jennifer Warner to get all the details about the event, as well as, learn about the club.
“One of the things that we always get asked is what does soroptimist mean, and it is a Latin word and soro means sister and optima means best, loosely translated it means best for women. The goal of soroptimist is to work together at a local, national, and international level to educate and empower and enable women and girls with an aim to improve their lives. That’s the whole focus of what our club is all about,” stated Willis. Their main focus is on education because educated women and girls are able to raise stronger, healthier families.
They help women strive to do their best when it comes to furthering their education through their grants. These grants aren’t necessarily for schooling but can go to other expenses that come along with attending school such as rent, utility bills and/or childcare expenses. “So our grants allow them to use that money to help with whatever barriers that might be before them, that might prevent them from finishing that education,” said Willis. Other projects that the Soroptimist group have helped with in the past have been the Senior Angel Project, East Carbon Clinic and Eastern Utah Women’s Health Clinic.
The Charity Benefit will be held at the Carbon Country Club on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 6:00 pm and this is one of the many ways that the Soroptimist group gathers funds for their charity work. “We have a dedicated wine tasting committee that’s been working really hard to provide a memorable night for this year. This is our 50th Anniversary of our wine tasting, we’re calling it the Golden Anniversary and we’re looking forward to spending a lot of time with members in our community, helping the women and children in the future with these grants that we can apply to them,” said Warner. There will also be a silent auction conducted during the event so guests can place a bid on what gift baskets they would like to win.
Tickets to attend the Charity Benefit are a donation of $60.00 per person, there will be a surcharge with credit card purchase. Pre-sale tickets are available from any Soroptimist Member and at the Carbon Country Club or they will be available at the door on the day of the event. There is a QR code listed on the event flyers that will access a site to purchase event tickets too.
