It’s time to sit down with Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard who was happy to highlight the county’s Personnel Office and discuss the recent commissioner’s meeting. Castle Country Radio now has the opportunity every other week to speak with the commissioner to keep citizens informed on the latest news and events.

The commissioner wanted to start things off my recognizing all the hard work the county’s personnel office does, “Yes, the personnel office, Mary Huntington does a great job with our employees. We have wellness clinics, training, partnerships to where she can find resources for our employees. Then just little things that help county employees and so just grateful for her office and all she does.” So when you see Mary or members of the personnel office be sure to thank them for a job well done.

At the last Commissioner’s Meeting they had a visit from some State Champions.  “Yes, so we had some State Champions and so we recognized our volleyball team, just way excited for them, their coaches and players, and just the high school representing Emery County. Then we had a State Champion cross-country, Camden Larsen. So just excited for our State Champions they represent Emery County very well and just wanted to give them thanks,” said Commissioner Leonard. The county is so proud of these student athletics for bringing home a championship to Emery County this year.

There is finally going to be natural gas installed in Green River. It has been quite the process for the city as they have worked with various state and county officials to bring natural gas to their city. “It’s been, I’m betting eight to ten years in the works, maybe longer than that, and so its come to fruition and they’re looking to start hooking up homes and businesses. This is just a really good thing, not only for the community but for potential economic development, and a little cheaper way to generate power and other things. Exciting for Green River to get natural gas,” stated Commissioner Leanord. Completion of the installation of the natural gas project is schedule to be finished in the Spring of 2024.

Finally, the Commissioner discussed and signed a Resolution about coal and coal energy at the last meeting. “We had a Resolution presented yesterday by Commissioner Jensen about supporting coal-based power, a branch of our economics and supporting coal and the economic stability to our area. So we wanted to pass that Resolution to say, hey, we’re still open for business. We are a coal-based community, and energy-based community, and we want to let people know that,” said Commissioner Leonard.
