The students at Carbon High are working alongside Trinity Church Food Bank to help restock their shelves during the holiday season. Castle Country Radio sat down with three members of the Student Government organization to get all the food drive details.
“So every year Carbon does the food drive around Thanksgiving, just because it’s the time of the year where the food banks need the most help, usually. This year we’re doing our annual food drive with the Trinity Church Center because they need it more this year. It’s a great way for the high school and the students to help our community out during a time when the food banks are in high demand during the holiday season,” said Student Body President, Neeley Robertson. The students are looking forward to gathering non-perishable food items to help restock the church’s shelves this holiday season.
The church is in desperate need of food items this year as they have been very busy helping families in the community. They sought out the school to assist them this year in replenishing their supply of non-perishable food items. “So they approached our Student Government Advisor, Pam Erickson, letting her know that they were in need of more cans this year. So Student Government thought that it would be perfect for us to donate all the food that we received to the Trinity Food Bank,” said Senior Class President, Allison Wright. The hope for the students is to work closely with the community to gather enough cans of food to help get the church through the holiday season this year.
“So the food drive goes through all of November and we are looking for non-perishable food items and cans. If you’re looking to donate you can come and drop off the cans and food items in the foyer at the high school,” said Senior Class Secretary, Allie Smith. The Student Government also has ways their student can help restock the shelves. They will be hosting a Peach Fuzz Volleyball game that will take place Nov. 15 and the cost to enter a team is 20 cans. Then on Nov. 17 there will be a mid-night movie event where admission for students will be one can of food.
