The Emery Lady Spartan basketball team has put their defense front and center in the first two contests this season. On Tuesday night at home against Juan Diego, they allowed just 19 points, and in the road contest on Thursday night against San Juan they put the clamps down early on the way to a 74-13 win.

Emery sits at 2-0 early on in the season, and they are just getting started, but if this is a sign of things to come, the Spartan Center could be the place to be during home games.

Emery set the tone right away putting up 28 points in the first quarter and holding San Juan to just four. The second was more of the same with the Lady Spartans adding another 21 points to their side of the scoreboard and giving up seven, taking a 49-11 lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, Emery slowed things down but kept up the defensive pressure allowing just two points in the entire second half, while putting up 25 and closing out San Juan 74-13.

Katelyn Nielson led the charge for the Lady Spartans with 18 points adding four rebounds. Aliya Lester added 13 grabbing seven boards. Kenadie Maughn and Karleigh Stilson both scored eleven. Maughn pulled down 10 rebounds and Stilson had five rebounds and four steals. Kali Jensen scored ten and dished out eight assists.

Emery will take to the floor on Tuesday when they welcome the Provo Bulldogs to the Spartan Center at 7:00 p.m..
