The Carbon boy’s basketball squad was on the floor Tuesday night to begin their 2023-2024 campaign. Welcoming in the Union Cougars, the crowd on hand got quite the show in a game that came down to free throws, the Dinos came away with the 38-36 win.

The Dinos ended last season 8-13 and entered the State Championships with the No. 12 seed, falling in the second round to Morgan.

Carbon came out in the first quarter outscoring the Cougars 13-9, Union wouldn’t go away though coming out in the second quarter to put up another eight points, but the Dinos took the 22-17 lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, the Cougars came out firing putting up eleven in the third, all the while holding the Dinos to seven cutting the Carbon lead to one 29-28.

The fourth quarter got tight, going down to the wire with trips back-and-forth to the free throw lines and the lead changing hands until at the final buzzer, Carbon came away with the 38-36 win, starting the season out at 1-0.

For the Dinos, it was senior Zeke Wilson who led the way with nine points, Carter Warburton added eight, and Logan Bennett with six. Kahner Raby pulled down 11 boards and Evan Lancaster dished out five assists.

Next up, for the Dinos is another home contest with South Sevier. Game time is set for 7 p.m., on Wednesday night.
