carbon-dinos-2-6

The Carbon Lady Dino basketball team got things going on the court Tuesday when they traveled to Cedar City to face the Reds. Despite outscoring their opponents in the second and third quarters they fell just short 59-53.

The Lady Dinos are coming off a successful 2022-2023 season where they finished 17-7, earning the No. 4 spot in the season-ending RPI. They made it all the way to the semi-finals where they ran into eventual State Champion Grantsville and then fell to Richfield in the third and fourth place game.

The game with Cedar was really a tale of quarters, with Cedar taking the first outscoring the Dinos 12-8. Carbon owned the middle quarters, pulling even with the Reds and taking a 27-23 lead to the locker room at halftime.

The third quarter saw Cedar cut into the Dinos lead for a moment but Carbon battled back to take a 38-33 lead into the fourth, and that is when the Reds took over.

Cedar would go on a tear in the final quarter putting up 26, and turning on the defense to hold Carbon to just 15, taking the 59-53 win.

Senior Amiah Timothy led the way for the Dinos with 25 points adding 10 rebounds and five assists. Madi Orth, also a senior, added 21 points on 9-17 shooting and pulling down six boards.

The Lady Dinos are back on the court on Nov. 28 when they will travel to take on Maple Mountain.

The home opener will be held on Dec. 5, when the Union Cougars come to town.
