There will be a First Aid, CPR & AED Training taking place on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Sunnyside/East Carbon Safety Building. This is open to everyone in the community and will be free to all middle and high school students. The cost to attend will be $18.00.  Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with EMTs Mary North and Kenzie Burnett to get all the details.

“We live out here in Carbon County, we have all these kids that go out hiking, riding their dirt bikes, side by sides, out in the middle of nowhere. Having First Aid, CPR training you never know when you might get into an accident. Having somebody with you that is CPR/First Aid trained, is really important, it can save a life, it can prolong life until first responders can actually get there and help that person,” said Burnett. When you better understand first aid basics, you’ll gain the ability to help those in need when the time comes.

This training will provide the basics and provide you with the tools to prevent a situation from becoming worse. “It’s not just like bandaging something, you’re going to learn out to apply a tourniquet, how to put an arm in a sling – those types of things. Also, Narcaning somebody in case of an overdose or an epinephrin if they get stung by a bee, if that’s needed, that kind of thing,” said Burnett.  There will be an opportunity to receive AED training which is learning how to and when to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Appropriate First Aid, CPR & AED training could mean the difference between life and death.

The training will take place at the Sunnyside/East Carbon Safety Building and lunch will be provided to all participants. “Yea, lunch will be provided by Miner’s Trading Post out there and it will be all free to them to come and enjoy. We would like to know by Dec. 4, the Monday prior to, so we just have a good head count for food available,” said North. The East Carbon Recreation Association is also a proud sponsor of the lunch being provided.
