Both the Carbon boys and girls wrestling teams traveled to the Panguitch Invitational over the weekend. After the two-day event, the boy’s team claimed the ninth spot out of 25 teams and the girls finished the event taking second out of 22 teams.
Crimson Cliffs took the top spot with 812 points, followed by Desert Hills in second with 722.5. Cedar City, Panguitch, and Dixie made up the remainder of the top five. Carbon ended the weekend with 417.5 points, landing them in ninth place.
Three Dinos finished in the top five as Brax Tapia claimed second in the 138 class, Trevor Jones took fourth in the 120 pound class and Jonathan Jewkes earned a fifth place finish at 175.
The Lady Dinos earned a second-place finish with 192 points following first-place finisher Richfield with 290 points. White Pine, Crimson Cliffs, Page rounded out the top five.
Madison Arroyo at 178-191 finished in second place as did Grace Lamb at 191-211. Codi Shaw, Haleigh Malmgren, Fortune Ward, Adrianne Lee, Mayah Gonzalez, and Rickelle Collins all claimed third-place finishes in their weight classes.
The Carbon Boys will be on the road Tuesday when they travel to Moab to face Grand and San Juan.
The Lady Dinos will now be off until this Friday and Saturday when they will take part in the Dave Smith Memorial this weekend at Carbon High.
