Joy Elwell Bertuzzi Ledger, born September 14, 1950, passed away peacefully at the age of 73 on December 7, 2023, at Timpanogos Regional Hospital in Orem, Utah.

Joy was born and raised in Ogden, Utah. She attended and graduated from Ben Lomond High School. Joy met Jim Bertuzzi when he was stationed at Hill Air Force Base. They married and moved to Indiana, Pennsylvania. They had three boys: Jay, Jeff, and Jeremy. Jim and Joy moved back to Utah in 1979 where Jim began working at the Wilberg Coal Mine. Jim died in the Wilberg Mine Disaster in December of 1984.

Joy then met Michael Ledger through a mutual friend in the summer of 1985. They started a relationship and were married on November 12, 1986 in Rockledge, Florida. Michael had a son, Brandon Ledger, who was just an infant at the time. Joy welcomed him with love into their home.

They lived in Castle Dale, Utah until the time of her death. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Mike Ledger, Castle Dale, UT; children, Jay Bertuzzi, Moab, UT, Jeff Bertuzzi, Washington, UT, Jeremy Bertuzzi, Castle Dale, UT, and Brandon Ledger, Castle Dale, UT; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Joy is preceded in death by her mother, Mae Gibson Elwell; father, Leland Clint Elwell; brother, Gary Elwell; sister, Lin Elwell Snider; and the first love of her life, James Michael Bertuzzi.

Graveside service, Tuesday, December 12, 2023, 2:00 p.m., Ogden City Cemetery (1875 Monroe Blvd.) in Ogden. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price and Huntington where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Joy online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
