Coming off a top finish for the boys and a second-place finish for the girls in Moab, the Emery Spartan swim team returned to the Aquatic Center in Castle Dale to welcome in the Union Cougars. The Cougars proved to be too much for the Spartans with wins on both sides of the pool.
In the girl’s division, Union beat out the Lady Spartans by a score of 799-707.
In the 200 medley relay Jessie Childs, Melody Lake, Illyria Mason, and Purity Mason finished in second place. In the 200 free relay, Emma Grimm, Hadley Meccariello, Brooklyn O’Neil, and Amy Sorenson swan to a second-place finish as well. Childs, Lake, Illyria Mason, and Purity Mason earned another second-place finish in the 400 relay.
Lake was one of three Lady Spartans to earn a first-place finish with her time of 6:17.58 in the 500 free, she also swam to a third-place finish in the 50 free. Purity Mason turned in a first-place time of 28.91 in the 50 free. Carley Young took first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:22.87, she also took second in the 200 individual medley. Annie Johnson finished second in the 500 free, and Grimm took third in the 200 IM. Illyria Mason came in third in the 200 free, and Acelyn Migliori took third in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Union claimed victory on the boy’s side outscoring Emery by a score of 812-746.
Tyler Frandsen was part of the first-place 200 medley relay 1:53.90, along with Parker Jensen, Adam Olsen, and Will Stilson. Frandsen, Stilson, Kade Larsen, and Chase Huggard swam their way to a second-place finish in the 200-free relay, and in the 400 Jensen, Huggard, Larsen, and Olsen took second.
Jensen swam his way to a first-place finish with his time of 2:09.80 in the 200 free, and a second place in the 100-yard breaststroke. Olsen earned two first-place finishes turning in the time of 25.24 in the 50 free and in the 100 free with a 57.01. Huggard took second in the 50 free, Preston Hulse took third in the 500 free, and Frandsen earned a third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Up next for Emery is a trip to Price where they will face Carbon in their newly remodeled indoor pool facility, scheduled for Tuesday the 19th. They will then be on Christmas Break until January 5 & 6 when they will travel to the Red Rock Invitational.
