Fortune Ward and Madison Arroyo both claimed individual championships as the Carbon Lady Dinos earned a second-place team finish at the Artemis Battle Saturday in Salem Hills.
Ward dominated the 135-pound weight class as she finished a perfect 5-0, topping Madilynn Jordan of Salem Hills by pin for the championship. Arroyo ended up 4-0 and defeated teammate Rickelle Collins for the top spots at 190 pounds.
As a team the Lady Dinos delivered an outstanding performance as eight wrestlers finished inside the top five. Sienna Alderson and Grace Lamb, Ward, Arroyo, and Collins all finished inside the top three.
Carbon’s team total of 342 points placed them second to only Salem Hills, who finished with 515 points. Richfield, Enterprise, and Green Canyon rounded out the top five in a field of 18 teams.
The Lady Dinos will return to the mat on Tuesday with a home meet against the Grantsville Cowboys before heading into the lengthy Christmas break. The team will then pause for a week before resuming the season on Wednesday, Dec. 27 at the Providence Hall Brawl.
