The Emery Spartans continued the wrestling season with a trip to Real Salt Lake Academy Friday and Saturday for the Christmas Clash.

Monty Christiansen finished the weekend tournament a perfect 5-0, taking home first place in the 113 pound weight class. Easton Thornley also delivered a solid performance as he finished 4-1, ending second overall in the 285 pound weight class.

Christiansen won his first three matches by pinfall, easily advancing to the semi finals. He advanced to the finals after winning an 11-4 decision over Corbyn Robison of Westlake. Matched up with Kaleb Blackner of Roy, Christiansen earned a 6-4 decision as he improved to 18-1 overall on the season.

Thornley took a similar path to the 285 championship match, winning his first four bouts by pinfall. He suffered a loss by fall to Skyler Armenta of Cyprus in the finale.

Competing against 48 other schools from around the state, the Spartans finished 11th overall with 111 points.

Only one meet remains before the lengthy Christmas break. The Spartans will next travel to Richfield on Tuesday before going idle until January 4.
