It’s time to catch up with Elmo City Mayor James Winn, who took time from his busy schedule to speak with Castle Country Radio about new council hours, ice skating rink and how to prepare for the winter season.

At the last city council meeting there was discussion on changing meeting times to accommodate the city’s residents better.  “We set it up so that according to daylight saving time, I guess it kind of follows, November to February it will be at 7:00 pm and once the time changes, we would start at 7:30 pm, it will always be the second Tuesday of the month,” stated Mayor Winn. This is to allow those folks more time to work on their farms/ranches during the day light.

The city is preparing the ice-skating rink in a new location this year and asks residents to be patient while the rink freezes up. “It will be there on the ball field again this time because the grass is too new to put it on, so we’ve got to wait till next year to put it in another spot that’s not on the ball field. We’re going to put it up and hopefully the temperatures will cooperate for it to start getting ice on it. It has to have 4 inches of ice before you can skate on it, so it will be closed for a little while till things cool down a little more,” explained Mayor Winn. Once we get snow storms in the area, he asked residents to help clear the snow from the rink to help keep ice in good condition.

Its said that we are to experience a snowstorm around the Christmas holiday so residents need to be prepared as per city ordinances. “We just ask the citizens once it snows that they could shovel their walks and get the snow off them so they’re a easier to pass on. The snow plows will be coming around, if you have cars parked on the road to get them off, especially on Center Street and Main Street the county plows that,” said Mayor Winn. He finished by wishing everyone a very merry Christmas.
