The Emery Spartans extended their winning streak to seven with a lopsided 62-39 victory over the Delta Rabbits Wednesday night at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale.

Luke Justice scored a game-high 16 points as the Spartans moved to 2-0 in Region 12 play. The Spartans used a balanced offensive performance as Zack Tuttle poured in 14 points, while Mason Stilson scored 12.

“We’re just moving the ball really well right now and it’s a lot of fun,” said senior Matt Olsen. “We start everything on the defensive end of the floor. Then we get out and run and we have been playing very well.”

Emery’s offense was a bit stale to open the game, but a 9-0 run at the end of the first quarter allowed the Spartans to take a 20-12 lead into the second. The momentum built carried over the next two quarters, making the fourth a formality.

Wade Stilson stuffed the stat sheet once again, while also scoring seven points for the Spartans. Olsen chipped in with six, leading the Emery bench, which scored 11 points.

Wednesday’s win comes just five days after the Spartans opened division play with a 56-54 win over the Juab Wasps in Nephi. The team is now one step closer to finishing the month of December unbeaten.

Ranked No. 2 in the latest UHSAA RPI, the Spartans hold a record of 8-1 overall. Emery will now take a lengthy break for the holidays but will return to the court on Dec. 29 with a road trip to Uintah.
