Woody Carter returned to his Heavenly Home on his 91st birthday, December 25, 2023. He was born on December 25, 1932, in South Gate, California, to Robert Fountain and Susan Lucille Welch Carter.

Woody was three years old when his sister, Wanda Lucille, joined the family. Woody attended grade school and middle school in South Gate. In 1946, his family moved to Rogue River, Oregon where he attended and graduated from Rogue River High School. Woody started college at Oregon State University. When the Korean War began, he joined the Air Force and served from March 1951 to December 1954. After studying the Russian language for eight months, he was stationed in Alaska (Adak Island on the Aleutian Island and St. Lawrence Island) monitoring Russian radio. After the Air Force, Woody received his Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in accounting, from Colorado State University. He went on to become a CPA. Woody spent most of his time working in the banking industry in Washington State and his own accounting business.

Woody was active in starting and participating in professional organizations and community activities. He and his wife, Ann, organized the 100-year commemoration of the Winter Quarters Mine Disaster in May 2000.

In 1979, he married Ann Helsten. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Seattle Temple. In 1980, Woody joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chehalis, Washington. He served in many capacities, including Branch President of the Scofield Branch. His favorite time was serving with Ann as Ordinance Workers in the Manti Temple and a senior mission in the Wisconsin, Milwaukee Mission.

Woody leaves behind his wife, Ann; his four children, Kelly Elrod, Cedar Bluff, AL, Connie (Glenn) Melville, McCleary, WA, Terry (Elizabeth), Bonnie Lake, WA, and Randy (Serena), Richmond, BC, Canada; along with four beautiful granddaughters, a handsome grandson and four adorable great-grandsons, with one more on the way. He is also survived by two nephews and a niece, Rob (Lynda) Weber, OR, Rowan (Yvie), WA, and Susan (Guy) McIntire, CA.

Woody was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Wanda; and niece, Cyndy Reyes.

Funeral service, Friday, January 5, 2024, 12:00 (noon), Scofield Branch (165 North Union Street) in Scofield. The family will receive friends at Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street) in Price Thursday evening, January 4, 2024, from 5:00-6:30 p.m. and at the church Friday morning beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment, Scofield Town Cemetery.
