Carbon County Clerk/Auditor Seth Marsing wanted to share some very important dates for voters to remember like the Party Affiliation deadline on Jan. 9. Castle Country Radio sat down with the Clerk/Auditor to get more details.

“There’s an affiliation deadline for the whole state for Jan. 9, so after that date you can’t change from one political party to another. It’s obviously important for you to know what your affiliation is and be affiliated so that you can participate in the caucus system and the election, primary elections,” said Marsing. You can change your affiliation either by stopping by the Clerk’s office at 751 East 100 North or online at https://vote.utah.gov/

This is mostly for the Republican Party because the Democratic Party are having an open primary. “The Democratic Party is having an open primary, which means that essentially anyone could participate or vote in that election. The Republican Party generally has a closed election, where you have to be registered Republican to participate,” stated Marsing. Again, the Party Affiliation deadline is Tuesday, Jan. 9.

There are some dates that voters should remember as well, the Democratic Presidential Primary will be on March 5. “For all of our local and state races, a General Primary is June 25,” said Marsing. This year the General Election is set to take place on Nov. 5.

To check your Party Affiliation voters can either visit the website or stop by the Clerk’s Office. “They can come into our office, give us a call, you can also go to https://vote.utah.gov/ to check your party affiliation or change it,” said Marsing. The Clerk’s Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
