029-4

Returning to the court for the first time in the New Year, the Dinos welcomed the Delta Rabbits to the gym at Carbon High on Wednesday night. The game could have gone either way with a hard-fought fourth quarter by both squads as Carbon held on earning the 57-51 win.

The Dinos were on the floor for the first time since their 77-61 loss to Juab on their home floor on December 20.

On Wednesday night, the Dinos and the Rabbits were pretty evenly matched with both teams playing even in the first quarter. In the second, Carbon took control, putting up 16, and turning up the defense holding Delta to just six points allowing the Dinos to carry a 29-19 lead into the locker room.

In the second half Delta started to whittle away at the Carbon lead, getting as close as 31-30 when Delta’s Cai Henderson hit a two-pointer bringing the Rabbits within one, and then moving into the fourth with less than a minute to go, Delta would cut the Carbon lead to 55-51, but a series of fouls sent the Dinos to the free throw line where Evan Lancaster and Ryker Butler sealed the win for Carbon.

Zeke Wilson led the way for the Dinos with 18, Butler was right behind adding 13. Kahner Raby and Logan Bennett each scored seven in the Carbon win.

The Dinos move to 5-5 this season overall and 1-2 in Region 12 play, they are also at the No. 10 spot in the latest RPI.

Tonight they will take on the Tabiona Tigers, the No. 1 team in 1A who hold an 8-1 record.

Gametime is set for 7:00 p.m..
