Carbon boys basketball has not started this season the way they had hoped. Coming off back-to-back losses against Tabiona and Richfield, they traveled to Manti on Wednesday night to take on the Templars. Manti used big second and fourth quarters to take the 65-38 win over the Dinos.
Carbon came into the game with the Templars winning just two of the previous six games, Manti on the other hand were winners of five of their last six.
The first quarter both teams started out slow combining for 13 points. In the second, Manti, with the home crowd behind them, put up 24 pushing the score to 32-16, going to the locker room at the half.
In half number two, Carbon hit the floor in the third outscoring the Templars 17-11, cutting the Manti lead to 43-33, and that was as close as the Dinos could get it. The final eight minutes the Templars turned up their defense, allowing Carbon to score just five points in the quarter, while putting up another 22 and taking the 65-38 win and moving the Dinos to 5-8.
Rydge Butler led the Dinos with 11, Ryker Butler had eight while Zeke Wilson added five in the loss.
The Dinos are now 5-8 overall and 1-4 in region play, and hold on to the No. 12 spot in the RPI.
Carbon will travel to Castle Dale to face the 10-4 Emery Spartans on Friday. The Spartans sit in the No. 4 spot in the RPI.
The contest will be available on KRPX 95.3 The Peak, “Where the Dinos Play” as well as the Castle Country Radio app and at castlecountryradio.com.
The Landon’s Diesel Service Pre-game show will kick off the broadcast at 6:30 with the tip0-off to follow at 7:00 p.m..
