This week’s Carbon School District weekly update shines a light on the Castle Valley Center. Principal Amy Bell stopped by Castle Country Radio to share some information about what is taking place at the school.
Recently, the school had some remodeling done in a portion of the school that use to house the trophy business. The new addition has brought in some new amenities for some of the students. “We got a new occupational and physical therapy room, and sensory room, and it’s a bigger space for our post-high. We’ve got bigger kids in there that we need a little more space, so they have one part of it. We have some phenomenal things going in there right now, we’re getting the final things set up,” said Principal Bell. Some of her students have a hard time processing sensory information so the addition of this space/room for students to have as an outlet is a great addition to the school.
The school loves to give their students a chance for “experiences” whether this be a fun Christmas visit from Adult Probation & Parole officers during the lunch hour or an opportunity to experience a band and choir performance. “Several groups that come and do an experience with our students are our high school band and choir both come over and do a mini-concert. But what I love about what they’ve done is they come and they’ve adapted to my students, so they’ll do a little part of that. But then they let our students engage, go up and see their instruments or do a sing-along with them. Where they’re sitting down, talking, interacting – which is absolutely the most important thing that they can do,” said Principal Bell. The interaction that students have with these guests are what is important and valued.
School officials are always looking for guests to come showcase a skill or activity with students. “It’s really if you think of an experience that you can create for us or you want to do an activity. We do a lot of activities, school wide activities, a couple of hours to come and just put together something, a theme, and then do something. Its just a way for them to come for an hour and just do a music activity or if you have a skill out there you like to do, a painting activity or something,” said Principal Bell. If you have a skill or hobby that students at the Castle Valley Center would love to experience, please call Principal Bell at (435) 637-9150.
